When a character is hit by a flying tire, there is no weight. When the stands collapse, the crowd looks like Sims characters. For a franchise that prided itself on making death feel inevitable and real , the digital sheen of Final Destination 4 undercuts the terror. You never feel like you are at the racetrack; you feel like you are watching a cutscene from a PlayStation 3 game. Spoilers ahead. Traditionally, Final Destination movies end with a sense of ironic dread. Part 1 ended with a plane explosion. Part 2 ended with a log truck callback. Part 3 ended on a subway train. That said, does it deserve total scorn? Not entirely. As a technical demonstration of 3D in 2009, it was effective.
