Accidentally launching Sid Meier’s Civilization VI in Russian (Русский) can be a frustrating experience, especially if you don’t read Cyrillic. Navigating a complex 4X strategy game in an unfamiliar language makes it nearly impossible to understand tech trees, diplomacy screens, or unit commands.
Launch the game. The main menu, tooltips, and all in-game text should now be in English. Pro Tip: If the game still launches in Russian after this, verify your game files. Go back to Properties > Installed Files > Click “Verify integrity of game files.” This forces Steam to reapply the English localization. Find the line that says: ; Language: en_US ; Language: ru_RU (Note: The lines are preceded by a semicolon, which means they are comments. The active language is uncommented). Wait for the download to complete.
Right-click on Civilization VI in the left sidebar. A context menu will appear.
Go to your Library (the icon that looks like a grid of squares in the left sidebar).
Steam will now download a small language pack (usually 100-300 MB). Wait for the download to complete.
